80th VE Day Celebration

A day to remember!

On Thursday, 8th May, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a day of reflection and celebration. The morning began with an outdoor assembly where the community gathered to honour the sacrifices made during the Second World War, highlighted by the raising of the Union Flag and a moment of prayer.

The day took an extraordinary turn when an iconic Chinook helicopter from RAF Odiham made a thrilling visit to Barfield. The aircraft landed on the school’s playing fields to the awe and excitement of the entire school community. Children from Nursery through to Year 6 had the unforgettable opportunity to meet the RAF crew, explore the aircraft up close, and learn about life in the Royal Air Force.

Following the excitement, everyone enjoyed a traditional fish and chips lunch, an afternoon of musical performances, and a tea party on the Headmaster’s lawn. Local MP Mr Greg Stafford also visited to address the pupils and commend the school's efforts in honouring this significant occasion.

It was a meaningful day, which united the community and provided lasting memories for us all.
